Another victim of the “Summer Is Over” syndrome. At the time, music this bright and sunny appeals to listeners on a basic level. Summer is going strong and it’s time for music that fits the mood, carefree and upbeat, and this music absolutely met those expectations. But as the year has worn on, there has been some lessening of appreciation for this album, and that has surprised me a bit. Essentially, an album for Cosentino to stretch her vocal prowess, Crazy For You is filled with enough sing-along hooks and toe-tapping tunes that it has provided a warm place for me go to in this cold season. Songs like the initial hit, “Boyfriend” may not strive to any great heights lyrically, but its’ feeling and deceptive emotional depth keep it from whirling away into nothing. And as is the case every year, we need that summer feeling to keep us from forgetting what we once had and what we will look forward to next year.
