Honourable Mention #4 - Andrew Cedermark: Moon Deluxe
Having heard his songs on the Underwater People comp's and having heard his guitar work in Titus Andronicus, I had a fairly good idea of what this solo album was going to sound like, and it doesn't disappoint. The loud, winding guitar work is there, as is the melodic vocal lines that made those compilations songs so memorable. Tempering those loud, frenetic lines are equally catchy introspective moments, such as when the guitars slacken and Cedermark's songcraft is seen and heard as clearly as his fretwork. The songs are concise when they need to be and sprawling when allowed. They ebb and flow alongside his voice, as horns, glockenspiel, and any number of other instruments chime in and out emphasizing the perfect moments in each song. And what a beauty of a closer. So while he may no longer have a home in Titus Andronicus, I'm sure he's got much more up his sleeve if this album is any indication and I'm anxious to hear more.
